VERY HARD TIMES live professional theatre at Cross Houses Old Chapel Centre on Friday 11th November 7.30pm

Feeling the Pinch? You’ve Never Had It So Good!
What happens when a hard-working, honest man can no longer afford to keep his wife in the style to which she has become accustomed and is forced to accept an offer from the landlord he cannot refuse? Arts Alive might just have the answer with Publick Transport’s ‘Very Hard Times’.
A reinterpretation of Dickens' classic so breathtakingly radical, that it bears no resemblance to the original whatsoever. Tackling the thorny issue of economic hardship with the mangled secateurs of melodrama, ‘Very Hard Times’ takes us on an emotionally exhausting journey featuring greed, lust and the odd song & dance number, through theatrical incompetence, petty squabbles and nervous breakdowns!
As the lights fade up, we dimly perceive a low-income couple with one child. A knock on the door... and their lives are changed forever by the irresistible temptations of a loan shark. Greed, envy and lust take hold, while the hero weighs up the pros and cons of recapturing his erring wife.
Be horrified as the villain charges at the heroine! Be relieved as the hero charges at the villain! Be slightly confused as the heroine charges at the hero! A rip-roaring tale of good versus evil gradually morphs into a study of theatrical incompetence.
Sian Kerry Director of Arts Alive says “We specialize in creating unique events in rural communities in partnership with local people. We love bringing quality performances to small venues, where a family ticket starts at a wallet friendly £20.00.“
For your chance to see how bad things really could be, ‘Very Hard Times’ can be experienced at Cross Houses Old Chapel Community Centre on 11th November at 7.30pm.
This show is suitable for adults and children 11+. Tickets are available on line at www.artsalive.co.uk. and can also be obtained on 01743 761795; |
